Peggy Weiss is a photographer and collage artist from Midland, Texas. I’ve only met her once but heard lots about her from my Dad who grew up with her.
They recently celebrated their 50th High School reunion and my parents told me about her work. When I saw “My Morning Swim” photographs, I thought that they looked like a refreshing and relaxing summer vacation.
My Dad shared with me that Peggy had been invited to exhibit her work in Spain this fall at the Third International Biennial of Fine Art and Documentary Photography.
Thanks to modern technology, Peggy is able to take her own photographs and digitally juxtapose elements from her own photographs and others from her friends and family and as you can see…the results are lovely. By blending images from one time with those from another, the result she obtains is a truth that is told for all times. Pictures that tell a thousand words are sometimes bound by the limits of a particular moment in time but what Peggy Weiss creates often seems relevant to history, the present and the future…
The body underwater has that magical mermaid-esque quality…effortless and graceful surrounded by soft bubbles. Being in water is incredibly meditative…as everything under the skin relaxes, becoming almost weightless from the magical uplifting qualities of the water. Weiss captures that relaxation beautifully. Doesn’t her work make you want to dive in?
