Les trois femmes: my mother, daughter and I traveled to Chartres, France and visited Chartres Cathedral. The night before we drove from Paris to Chartres, we watched the movie that was filmed in Chartres called Cash / Gold Brick about a French adventure of a very handsome man who works in a perfume factory owned by a wealthy family that dominates the city of Chartres.
This was my second visit to Chartres. Thirty years ago in 1994 when I turned eighteen and now my daughter is visiting thirty years later at the same age.
Seeing the movie made me so aware of how clean Chartres Cathedral is compared to thirty years ago. I remember the inside being so dark it was almost black. Look how clean it is now!
Below are pictures from eighteen year old Ashley. I remember I wanted to take it all in and look up so I laid on the floor and did just that. My daughter recreated the image thirty years later at the same age.
Chartres is one of the lone survivors of medieval churches. The most precious relic owned by the cathedral of Chartres is a piece of cloth that was part of a garment worn by the Virgin Mary at the Nativity of Christ.
We should all be so grateful to the guardians of time, who preserve, restore and value history. Chartres is captivating and I hope to inspire you to visit this dreamy pocket of France.
