Big city or small, there is always a large base of Texans who love BBQ. Going to school in Alabama, I spent time enjoying Dreamland BBQ. My husbands parents are outside of Memphis so I also explored Tennessee BBQ. I’m from Denton, Texas and have always enjoyed Texas-style BBQ. I like my sauce slightly spicy and sweetened with ketchup and brown sugar.
This barbecue sauce is easy to make and is absolutely delicious with chicken or pork. My family loves it and it beats purchased sauce.
The secret is in the sauce!
- 2 cup Ketchup
- 1 cup white vinegar
- ½ cup dark brown sugar
- 4 tablespoons yellow ground mustard
- 4 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tablespoons onion powder
- 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon Tabasco
Whisk together all ingredients in a medium saucepan. Cook over medium, whisking occasionally, until ingredients are combined and sauce is just starting to simmer, 2 to 3 minutes. Cool to room temperature, about 30 minutes. Store in an airtight container in refrigerator up to 3 weeks.
